What unit are the crop margins in?

Margins are entered in PDF points (pt). One point equals approximately 0.35 mm or 1/72 of an inch. A typical page margin is around 36–72 points.

Will cropping remove content from the PDF?

Cropping adjusts the visible area by setting the crop box. The original content is not deleted — it is hidden outside the crop boundary.
